A Betsey Farewell

My favorite Betsey Johnson store has closed, along with dozens of others across the country. I became a Betsey fan after my first pair of turquoise embroidered flats I wore with just about everything that summer. These are now my favorite Betsey Johnson heels -- the glitter Polly. She certainly has a knack for the fun and flirtatious. And for a girl who isn't afraid of hot pink, I dig her aesthetic.

I hear that the stores are closing but the brand isn't done. Personally, I look forward to many more cartwheels down the runway!

The Betsey bankruptcy and a reality show in the works

By now you've heard, and shed a collective tear for funky fashion lovers everywhere, that Betsey Johnson LLC has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. It's still surprising to me that nobody stepped forward to rescue this dynamic brand! Word is that the Betsey line seen in stores like Macy's will continue to sell. But this blog is reporting that she has a reality TV show in the works with her daughter LuLu, who reportedly is interested in launching her own line. Just remember, Lulu. You got it from your mama.

It's beginning to look a lot like BETSEY

This Wall Street Journal article is a must read on the fashion icon and the Plaza hotel's decision to have her decorate the famous Christmas tree. As you may have already guessed, it's over-the-top. And fabulous. And...of course....bright pink!

Also, read this to find out more about the famous Eloise at the Plaza.

It is October...And Betsey Is Celebrating Breast Cancer Survival!

Breast cancer is close to Betsey's heart, and this year she celebrates her 12th year as a survivor. I've been more attuned to breast cancer causes since this Marie Claire article opened my eyes to the amount of research funding breast cancer pulls in each year. I took the article as a reminder to check up on the research organizations you are funding, and to conduct your due diligence. What exactly are they spending your money on?

Awhile back, Betsey offered a great 3/4 sleeve shirt sold through Everything But Water with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the LUNGevity Foundation. I was happy to see it as lung cancer is often stigmatized because of its association with smoking. But I can tell you after meeting a Stage 4 survivor, who wasn't a smoker in his lifetime, the disease impacts us all.

How do you feel about the current state of fashion for a cause? Feel free to leave your comments below.

Welcome to the Betsey Blog!

Glad that you stopped by! This blog is dedicated to Betsey Johnson fashion ... as seen on the streets, on TV, in fashion magazines ... and just about everywhere else.
Betsey has a storied career that began when she won a Mademoiselle Guest Editor contest. She eventually went on to open her first boutique in New York's Upper East Side, Betsey Bunky Nini, where Edie Sedgwick became her house model. Part of the Andy Warhol scene, Betsey quickly elevated her fashion prowess and took over rock 'n roll label Alley Cat. Today, its not unusual to see a Betsey Johnson store, dressed up in her signature pink, still flaunting its punk side.
